What is HDMI Certification?
What is HDMI certification?
HDMI: (High Definition Multimedia Interface) is a digital video/audio interface technology. In April 2002,
seven companies, Hitachi, Panasonic, Philips, Silicon Image, Sony, Thomson and Toshiba, jointly established
the HDMI Ultra clear Multimedia Interface Organization (HDMI Association). On December 9 of the same year,
HDMI version 1.0 standard was officially released, marking that HDMI technology has officially entered the
historical stage. It has been updated to 2.1 standard. If an enterprise wants to use HDMI patented technology
and logo, it must obtain the authorization of HDMI Association, that is, HDMI certification. HDMI Association
certification adopts the HDMI certification mode of membership, compliance testing, and payment of copyright
tax. All association members who produce HDMI lines or add HDMI interfaces must pay corresponding fees in
the corresponding procedures, such as membership fees, test fees, and royalties (i.e., copyright taxes). The fees
are different for different product categories. The HDMI membership fee is an annual fee, which is continuously
paid to maintain the validity of membership, while the HDMI test fee is used for compliance verification, and the
royalty is used to defend the copyright.
Why HDMI certification?
HDMI can transmit uncompressed high fidelity signals on a single cable. Since the HDMI data bandwidth is about
5Gbps, the requirements for transmission quality are quite strict, so HDMI certification ensures the communication
quality of products. Products that have obtained HDMI legal certification can ensure the quality and standardization
of transmission signals. In addition, HDMI belongs to compulsory patent certification. If customer uses HDMI
technology (using HDMI interface), it means that the product uses HDMI patented technology, and it can only be
used after applying to the HDMI Association for certification authorization. Otherwise, it will be considered as an
infringement. In order to prevent infringement, the HDMI Association has set up a market supervision department,
which is divided into two parts: first, market spot check, that is, random spot check of HDMI products in the market,
Check whether there is HDMI certification; The second is to set up a supervision department at the customs.
If HDMI products need to be cleared, HDMI certification must be provided, otherwise they will not be released
(which is why many customers will be detained by the customs);
